Reconquest: 2006

So this thing of ours is up, up and away in about a month. It's fitting that Athens starts us off since that's where the 87 meltdown occurred. Before the invective comes flying in about our mercenary behaviour while claiming to be not "back together", one would be wise to remember what F. Scott Fitzgerald had to say in his brilliant essay "The Crack-Up"... namely, that "the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time." Indeed, it is this denial of the present that allows us to shave in the morning without scrutiny, happy to soon be off on a roadie's holiday while raking in the shekels with both hands. Oh, the wonder of a reckless youth...

Remember what Roberto Duran said in the 8th round in his rematch against Sugar Ray Leonard?

Watching Monty melt down today I'm reminded that there really is no relief, no redemption, only the courage to remain interested and the willingness to be surprised by the same old shit. Fuck, I'm ready to rock and maybe even roll a little given the opportunity.

His roadie let him down but what really happened was he refused the gift. Silly bastard.

No I think some sort of Cave dwelling Cohen freaks will be opening. Whatever happened to that other baritone pasty boy who did that wonderful cover of Jolene? That guy used to beach whales when he sang. As far Ms. Hurricane, she's knocked up and happy as can be...

More like juggling chainsaws... as for that Weavers ditty, since we couldn't convince the Boss to sing it in an orange jumpsuit with electrodes attached we'll just have to rely on Power Point.

Maybe we should fly you over to conduct the choir. Truth be told, I lifted it from some paperback. Fact. I knew the tune only subliminally like some Jobim number. Fact. At the time, it had been out of the zeitgeist for some twenty odd years. Fact. Did it make sense in a post-Darby pre- Wonderland milieu. Absolutely. Apologies to Mr. Ellroy.
